Cinque Terra Travel Guide - All About Cinque Terra, Italy

Vernazza clings perilously to the cliff in the Cinque Terra

One coastline, five villages and a trillion and one picture-perfect vistas - the Cinque Terra is the stuff of Italian fantasies.

A combined UNESCO World Heritage Site, the pedestrianized villages of Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola and Riomaggiore are composed of colourfully-painted houses clinging perilously to steep, rocky hillsides.

The five villages are linked by train as well as a breathtaking cactus-lined coastal path that meanders its way through olive groves and terraced vineyards. It is possible to walk the entire trail in one day.

The brilliant blue Ligurian Sea shimmers below, inviting sweaty hikers in to escape the beating sun.

The sunsets in the Cinque Terra are otherworldly and you'll find plenty of restaurants stocked with local wine and fresh seafood to top off a perfect day.

The Cinque Terra is serviced by a frequent train service which runs between Genoa and La Spezia.
