Mexico's masses of coastline makes for endless opportunity to get into the water. From Baja California to Bahías de Huatalco, the Pacific coast has numerous diving and snorkelling and hotspots, although it's the warm, clear waters of the Caribbean coast that have the more famous allure — top locations include Playa del Carmen, Isla Mujeres and the coral island of Cozumel, one of the world's most popular dive spots with great year-round visibility and a wealth of marine life — the reefs along its western edge form a long coral barrier that is second in size only to the Great Barrier Reef.
Even inland in Mexico your wetsuit might get an outing though: more unusual dive spots include the limestone sinkholes or 'cenotes' near Akumal on the Yucatán peninsula, and the crystalline lagoons in the middle of the Chihuahan Desert at Cuatro Ciénagas.
